Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is her mom. She was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, of age, her dad landed a position as a curator at The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the mansion's historical site. In 2005 she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of a major in vocal music. Sullivan started singing as a contralto kids' choir, and then a few years later in the adult choir. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially minimal "I had solos singing in church and someone wanted me to go on an evangelical label when I was 11 years old, but I wasn't yet ready," she recalls. Then, McDonald's held a contest for kids in big cities. I was selected to perform "Accept the Grace of God" on the show Showtime At the Apollo. And the audience was very supportive. At the age 13 she sang alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. There, she recorded an entire album. But the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped at the hands of the company. Missy Elliott was the producer for some tracks on Her debut album. Among them "Backstabbers" was a viral track recorded by Timbaland composed by Elliott.
